Kilt Lurking
Hello, Finally decided to register since I have lurked for quite a while now and had correspondence with Rocky (USA Kilt) and Matthew (New House Highland). During some geneology research the past year I got more involved as I was working my mothers side of the family. Her father was a great man I respected very much. His family name is Williamson with a middle name taken from his mother of ONeal...first name Malcolm. Dark haired, dark eyed....to find that his grandfather had taken a native american wife which might explain how he could be pasty white under his shirt but dark as oiled leather otherwise.
Anyhow....it appears the links point towards the Clan Gunn....though I have not been able to find any definitive links in the Highlands from official records. His family settled in the Virginia and Carolinas....and many Scots-Irish the Carolina's.
My first kilt is a SportKilt...that I have mainly worn around house...or to an annual motorcycle gathering I help support. My next will be a 13-16oz box pleated kilt as I always lean back to more traditional....whether is my hunting with hand made longbows, selbows and arrows...or yearning to build a birchbark canoe to replace my glass workhorse.
Thanks again for the wealth of information shared here...and hopefully I can continue my search albeit through my maternal lineage.
I am a retired military veteran...born and raised in Charleston SC...outdoorsman, husband, father. Thanks again.

Scotland is only 1/5 the size of Montana, but Scotland has over 3,000 castles and Montana has none.

Welcome to the great, kilted, rabble. From the highlands of southern Oregon, in the mythical State of Jefferson.
