Kilt Newbie Baltimore, Maryland
Hey! I found this site while doing research after buying my first kilt. Wow! I never knew there were so many choices and tartans. I've recently taken up bagpipes and joined a pipe and drum group . Needless to say I'm all in and the Kilt is part and parcel. Apparently my last name hails from Wales with some Scotish roots as well. Any advice on buying or wearing a kilt is welcome - definitely since I'm such a rookie. Thanks much!!

Join us in Annapolis on the 30th
Puglord,
Well, welcome to the rabble. I am sure that you will enjoy yourself here.
Some of us are getting together on St. Andrews Day, the 30th, at Fado's Irish Pub in Annapolis. It is a kilted night out, so wear your kilt if you want, or not if you don't. Good food, good drink, and good company. Here is the link if you are interested. Some of us will be there around 5:00, but more will show up around 6:00 or so. So, don't worry about when you can get there.

Hey there! I'm new to kilts myself. I haven't bought one as I'm still trying to figure out what I want. I, too, had no idea of the number of options and choices. I've put out a list of what I've looking at (generally in the budget realm) and have gotten some great feedback if you want to look at the few posts I've made.
My dad (who hails from London, England) told me some time ago that our last name (Parry) also comes from Wales from a form of Ap Harry (the spelling is probably off) which means Son of Harry. This was apparently molded to the current "Parry". I did find a "Parry" tartan at USA Kilts which dates back all the way to 2002. Sigh.
I see you've already been invited to events in the frigid north - better to wear wool underwear I think - it's already dropped to the mid-70s here in my fair city.
