Kiltmans from Holland as new member
Hello Kiltmans here,
I like to introduce myself to you all.
I am 63 years Old and live in a small town South West outside Rotterdam, NL
Since I grew 13 I have had the desire to wear unfurbicated garments.
I told my mother so, and she announced: That is TABOO. Boys wear pants,
Girls wear skirts. (In Holland Kilts were hardly known in 1960!)
A long time it was on the low burner. Recently on the internet I discovered that:
Xmarks and its Dutch and German equivalents exist
Kilts need not be only Tartan kilts, they are also for sale in plain colors. That is more to my liking.
So now I have 2 Utilikilts and another Swedish from Blacklader arrived today.
And I decided to stop pretending.
For the few years of my life which I now have in front of me I thought it is not really useful to acknowledge taboos.
I told my wife from now on I will wear a kilt whenever I have the inclination to do so.
Also several of our friends have seen me in Kilt and we even have gone out to a museum and a restaurant with me wearing the kilt.
It feels right. The amazing thing is that I hardly get any negative remarks.
Majority is positive and in a lot of situations there is no reaction at all. Nice feature is that the positive reactions for 90% come from women!
Sometimes they ask: Why do you wear that: My response (if appropriate): Do I ask you why you wear pants? Mostly then they stand mute. I consequently add: I wear it because I like it.
So I look forward to being a member of the Kilt wearing society at Xmarks.
