Kilts and cars
Searching the Internet for information on kilts and related accessories seems like it can be quite a bit like searching for information on cars. If I go to a dealer I might get lucky and find somebody who's happy to give me fair and good information or I might find somebody who will try to swindle me and sell me an inferior product. Going online tends to be like looking at gearhead forums that demand exceptional amounts of knowledge just to get in the door. Just punching in questions in Google has lead me here multiple times and answered my questions.
For myself I'm not even a first time kilt owner and wearer, but when I finally do make my first purchase I intend on making it intelligently. I'll be lurking here for a long time, no doubt, but at least thought I'd share my appreciation! Thank you all so much.

Re: Kilts and cars
Welcome. There is a great deal of knowledge here for sure. I am sure you will find answers to most any question already here somewhere. If not....ask and someone (likely more than one) will be able to assist.

Welcome to Xmarks, James. One thing we're good at (the members of Xmarks) is giving people knowledge to make their own decision and giving opinions. Best of luck on your future purchase!

Re: Kilts and cars
I used to always tell people who came into the museum gift shop wanting a kilt for the first time that the best "accessory" to buy first was a book. I'd recommend one of the books we had available on Highland Dress and tell them that the money they spent on the book, and the time they took to read it, could save them a lot of money and frustration down the road.
When you do invest in your kilt, you want to be sure it's what you will really be happy with, and that requires doing some research. You'll find a lot of helpful information here. Feel free to ask any questions!

Welcome!
There will be no shortage of opinions on any questions you ask! Fortunately, you will also have the possibility of seeing what each member is talking about. However you decide to dress, make sure your decision is not an uninformed one...ask anything!

Thanks for the welcome! At the very least my copy of "So You're Going to Wear The Kilt!" is in the mail, so here's to a good start!

Well, a start of a start, rather. Again, I'm just getting my footing. Still, best to learn, then decide. Thanks again!
