Long-time kilt wearer, first time poster
Hey everybody! I've been wearing kilts for a good long time, mostly utilikilts and others of that nature. My kilts are in the same rotation as my trousers, so I wear them at least one day a week, or more. My wife and I both have Scottish ancestry and we're interested in our heritage. Just recently, I ordered my first traditional kilts, so I'm patiently waiting for their arrival.
I've always been interested in European history, especially that of Great Britain and Ireland. Last year, I got a DNA test to determine where exactly my family came from. Like lots of Americans, my family had some fuzzy ideas, but no actual information. When I got the results back, I was totally surprised to learn that 69% of my DNA is from England and Scotland. I already knew that we had what my family called 'Scotch-Irish blood,' but a total shock was that only 5% of my genetic background was Irish.
For awhile now, I've been lurking on the forum, just sort of checking things out. So I glad to have found ya'll!

I really appreciate the kind welcome. I live in western Oregon, where the First Nations have dozens of words to describe the various kinds of rain that we have here. In my mind, I envision the weather in Scotland that way.
All the best,
Mark

Welcome Mark. Hope you can some time make it to the kilted night on last Tuesday of the month where the folks meet in Portland to swap tall stories, doubtable sagas, and the occasional bald-faced fib! But the food is good and the company fun.
Studies have shown that women who gain a few pounds live longer than men who mention it.
