Merry Christmas from a new member in Frederick, MD
I just joined this Christmas day and am pleased to be among you all. I have been hesitating acquiring a kilt for what seems like ages and have finally taken a simple step and ordered an economy 8-yard kilt jut to get my feet wet. I've had other parts of a 'kit' for some time (those being Balmoral and a Glengarry bonnets and a few clan crest badges), but never a kilt.
I first learned of our Scot heritage while doing genealogy of the Manson name and discovering that the name was a sept of the clan Gunn (I hesitate using the phrase "Gunn clan" verbally because of the misunderstanding that it can create). But the genealogy has not yet been completed and I am yet to find hard evidence that our family did emanate from the northwest of Scotland near the Orkneys. My GGGGrandfather was here in the USA at least by 1791 when shown serving with the Westmoreland County Rangers (and receiving land in what is now Venango County PA for his service).
I currently live in Frederick, MD and have children and grandchildren nearby and also in Birmingham, AL (although they are here for Christmas right now).
I will have lots of questions and requests for advice as I get more deeply involved. I will appreciate all manner of your assistance.
Regards,
Tom
