my first kilt

I live in the quaint town of Oakville, and even though there are a large number of Scots who live here, there is no kilt maker that I can find. So I drove out to Toronto to buy my first kilt. I ended up at Cairngorm Scottish Imports and laid down my deposit for my 9 yard Mackinnon tartin kilt to get made. As I am a larger stature man, I was told that 47" hips need more material. A few measurements later and a good ding to my credit card, I was off with a smile on my face.

By the time I got home, there was a message on my answering machine about where I want my kilt to be made. As I was getting my tartin from Lochcarron, I have the option of the mill making my kilt in Scotland, or having them send my 9 yards here, and the store will get their kilt maker to do the magic locally.

As this is my first kilt, I am non the wiser to what is best. I have never seen the quality of workmanship from Lochcarron, so I don't know if I will be taken for a fool, or just happen to have luck fall on my side.

Has anyone out there in the great 'X' had a kilt made by the Lochcarron mill? and do they make exceptional kilts? or would it be wiser to just get the fabric send back here to Toronto and have a local kilt maker do the work. From the examples I have seen, she does a wonderful job.
