need a kilt in Illinois
Don't know if this is the correct place to do this. Still finding my way around. I'd like to congratulate you all on being so enthusiastic. My son is going to wear a kilt to his prom and graduation. His girlfriends parents think it will ruin the prom pictures!! Thank goodness he has been blessed with a decent Scottish chip on his shoulder which makes him even more determined!!
Has anyone been to the Scottish Shop in Chicago? I read some adverse reviews from sometime ago and wondered if it had improved any? I'm a bit worried about buying online. USA kilts seems the way to go but returning and exchanging is such a hassle. If its made to measure then you are stuck with it.

You could always rent the full dress regalia----kilt, PC, etc...---then no worries about having to pay as much or keep a kilt that only marginally fits. Turnaround to get it, and exhange it if there is a fit problem, is pretty quick too. As long as your son is a fairly standard size, and you are not too stuck on a particular clan tartan.
Matt Newsome at Scottish Tartans Museum is guaranteed to do his best to make you happy. Were I to be renting I would contact him first. He is an advertiser here on the forum so should not be tough to find.

I think you are right and i am moving towards the rental. I don't think that this is the kind of thing I should be trying to do in a hurry. Usa kilts do say they can make and dispatch in 3 weeks but then I may have a problem with jacket sizes ect. I'll try the Tartan museum and see if they have a City of Glasgow or some such. Thanks for your input. Much appreciated.

Welcome from Eastern Washington State. Ruin the photos. They're just afraid he will show-up their daughter. Good on him.

Hello and welcome from Texas! I am sure you
can find what you need with the many vendors we have on XMarks. Rocky at USAKilts has an excellent reputation, as does Matt at the Scottish Tartan Museum. Good luck in your sons venture.
