New to forum
Let me introduce myself. My name is Jerry. My family is from County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, but I live in Virginia. My grandparents, my father and my uncles immigrated to the USA in the mid 20s. From trying to trace family genealogy, I found that my family is a sept of the Macneil of Barra clan, so when I started wearing kilts, that was the tartan I chose .I found my way here to this forum from a link posted at "Tom's Cafe" So far my Kit wearing is just about limited to Celtic festivals and Highland games, but I did go out to dinner and breakfast in Williamsburg this past weekend in my kilt, when i was there for the Williamsburg Scottish festival. Even though I'd read a lot of positive reactions in the Cafe forum, I was quite surprised at the positive reactions I got. I'm going to try and wear my kilts more often in the future.

If you are going to wear your kilt more often, Perhaps you should invest in a casual kilt or two. They are machine washable and durable.

Jerry,
WELCOME Glad that you found us!
I also have Co Tyrone in my background (on my Mother's side) in addition to Co Fermanagh (on my Father's). I too am tracing my genealogy and finding many many holes.
As you can probably tell by reading the posts here we all take kilt wearing very seriously. And am glad that you want to become kilted more frequently which is what I experienced. We have many wonderful kiltmakers that post on this board and the prices all vary. Check them out and do not hesitiate to ask for imput from us, it will be given.
BTW where in Virginia do you live, I have a cousin on my Mother's side who lives in Falls Church are you anywhere near there?
Again WELCOME!

Hi Jerry <waves> and welcome to the forum.
I want to warn you, the place is contagious and VERY addictive. I've been here but a few days and am suffering from lack of sleep, reading all there is to be found.
The lads here are all a personable lot and I hope you enjoy yourself here as much as I have.
Peace,
Mike

Welcome to the crew Jerry. We're all hopelessly addicted, so it's all down hill for you from here. Might as well throw away the pants, you won't need them any more.

Welcome Jerry!
I'm glad you're coming around and not just seeing your kilt as a once-per-year thing.
Start out how and when you feel comfortable wearing it. I believe the general consensus here is that smaller, more personal venues bring out more friendly compliments than if you were to, say, start out wearing it at Wal-Mart. But your mileage may vary.

Come away in Jerry!
Glad to have you join this band of merry kilted men!
I have to warn you though that you'll come to detest every moment you must spend in trousers (let's leave them to the ladies shall we?).
Bill
May all your blessings be the ones you want and your friends many and true.
