New to forum, new to kilts: celebrating McCreary/MacRory family lineage
Hi all,
I’m Rick, aka tubino. I am invited to a wedding in Scotland next fall, and kilt-wearing is encouraged. This possibility has spurred me to highlight my mother‘s Scottish heritage through a MacCrory/McCreary line that was likely MacRory way back. From what I have read the MacRory line is associated with both the MacDonald and MacLaren clans, and I have insufficient genealogical information to say any more than that. The MacLaren tartan colors and pattern appeal to me, and on that flimsy basis I‘d like to get a quality kilt and tweed jacket. Ideally I‘d find a quality 8-yard wool kilt secondhand. I‘m here to learn.

Now I'm committed: I bought the kilt!
I did it today. I had found a 16oz 8-yard kilt recently made by Gaelic Themes for a customer, in the MacLaren modern tartan, in my waist size. Apparently the deal fell through, and I bought it as a clearance item, paying a bit less for the 8-yard kilt than a 5-yard -- but may need to shorten it a bit. It will all be clearer in a week, when I get it. But right now I'm excited about it!

That's super! Looks like a high-quality kilt for sure.
If you're new to kiltwearing you'll see on this site, and on various facebook sites and so forth that there are several different forms of kiltwearing, different levels of formality, for kilted weddings in Scotland.
The same traditional kilt you have works perfectly with all these various kinds of outfits.
The differences come with the choice of shirt, tie, jacket, sporran, socks, and shoes.
