New to the forum, owned a kilt for a few years.
Hello All,
I'm new to the board but I've own a Sport Kilt brand kilt for about 3 years. I originally bought it for a Halloween party. I figured I'd get something that would last instead of a cheesy costume one. An interesting note in the first time wore it. As stated before it was for a Halloween party, so it was in the fall and the temps were down. I chose to wear some undies under my kilt. I knew people would want to raise the kilt to see what was underneath. I took the FedEx box the Kilt came in, cut it in half and fashioned a string through it and tied it around my waist under the kilt. So when people lifted the kilt they saw my package. Haha. I was divorced about a year previous to that time and I didn't date anyone up till that point. My thinking was to get my head straight and not jump into dating right after I was divorced. It was a large party, many people there I knew and many I didn't. One of the friends I knew there, who's son was the ring bearer in my first marriage, wanted to introduce me to someone. After she checked out the package she thought of her friend. She walked me over to where she was. There was a quite attractive woman there but I was certain she was with someone. As luck would have it she was the one my friend was taking about. My friend told her to pull up my kilt. She was hesitant to pull it up. She pulled up the back side first. Her thinking was if I didn't have any undies on all she would be subject to was a hairy butt. Haha. She saw the undies and then pulled up the front and saw my package. Haha. I've been dating her ever since. That was Halloween 2013. I wore the kilt the next year to the same party as the theme was kilts.
That's the only two times I wore them. Today I saw a video posted on Facebook about Utilikilts. It got me thinking. I started to read up on kilts. I found an article written by a guy in Brooklyn who wore a kilt to work one day. His reasoning was that Kilts were cooler than shorts and more formal than shorts. It was summer in New York and to hot for pants. I was thinking how much cooler I was in my kilt. I read some more and the got to thinking what do the Scots think about all this mess. A Google search lead me to this forum. My last name is Hall, which is or English, Scottish, Irish and others. I figured I can wear one due to my lineage. I'm a pharmacist in a small town pharmacy so I don't think I'll be wearing it to work. I also ride a motorcycle quite often and a kilt just won't work on the bike. Not enough protection. I guess I could put it on over my overpants. Or just store the kilt in the saddle bags. I'd be the only one in a kilt on a Harley. Haha. My kilt isn't a utility one, it's a Braveheart designs one. A typical Scottish tartan designs. So it really wouldn't work for normal every day use. I'm thinking like my current work pants you'd need a tan or a khaki one and a black one. Or more. So I'm here to learn as much as I can and decide which kilt to add to my collection. Thanks for having me.

You ride in a Kilt? To me that's like riding in shorts. I'm one of the ATGATT riders, all the gear all the time. Although I've been slacking on my leg protection lately. My riding over pants shrunk over the years.

Hello and welcome from Houston. We haven't had a Highland Games event in the Bayou City in a couple of years, but you'll find that San Antonio has one annually in early April, as does Salado (November), etc... Some easy searches will get you there in case you are looking for venues to don the kilt with others.
