New gent from Arlington, VA

Hello,

First post here. I have been reading through a bunch of posts. I'm not Scottish or Irish... but getting arround to wearing a kilt through a rather bizare situation...

So the martial artists I train with go to Japan every year and a few of them are Scotts and have this thing where everyone don's kilts on the last day and goes to a pub to drink a few small beers. I am also a hiker/backpacker and have heard that they can be quite comfortable for trekking.

My thinking is to get either a Marine or Leatherneck tartan (MOS 0302/0303)...

I am also a revolutionary war reenactor (www.1VA.org rifle co) so wearing polywool makes me cringe a bit... but for a kilt that might be an option.

Other stuff: also a tailor of 18th centry clothes and build flintlock rifles/fowlers and do some cutlery work. Also into Japanese (batto do) and western martial arts (Italian rapier, smallsword, German/Italian wrestling)...

I was quite a fan of re-enactions when I lived in the UK - particularly The Sealed Knot, English civil war (isn't that an oxymoron?) events. I think I would definitely have been a Cavalier, rather than a Roundhead!
