    New guy from Illinois

    Hello everyone! I'm Doug, and I live in West Central Illinois. I've been a kilt wearer for about 20 years, and I have decided to expand my skillset, and start sewing. What better skill to have than being able to make my own kilts? Eventually I want to make a leather kilt, but leather being expensive, I need to mess up a few out of fabric first! I'll do my best to search before asking questions, and I look forward to sharing all my progress, and learning from this group!

    Well met Doug. Great ambitions you have there in your intro. I would recommend practicing on thick fabrics or man-made leather before you get to the leather kilt. Also, you might look to a kilt with leather panels alternated with fabric. There are examples, in older posts, where fabric is used in the inner pleats of a box pleat with a different fabric as the outer shell.
