New and have a confused allegiance....
Hi,
First, thanks for allowing my inclusion. I look forward to learning more!
Looking for opinions....
1. Spend huge bucks in Edinburgh at Kinloch Anderson having a custom Kilt made. It's the only place in the world allowed to sell the Tartan of my Graduate School; Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh. I earned an MBA there and it would be dear to me to get one but the cost is likely north of about $1500 total package. I've not yet costed it out entirely. I am taking the family to Ireland and to Edinburgh in June/July and then going back again with my wife in October for work. My intention, if I do this route, is to get fitted whilst with the family and to pickup where to formal dinners in October. We are dining in several clubs and on the Royal Yacht Britannia as part of the work stuff. I manage a country club and am attending some training there.
2. Go with a US Army kilt as a veteran; get a formal jacket and wear mini medals, infantry cord and 3rd Infantry shoulder buff strap. It would look really cool I think and be loads cheaper. Being a Veteran is equally, if not more important to me and how I identify myself.
But, as I write this the thought occurs to me that perhaps get both ;). It would only mean packing one more Kilt and for the events/dinners, I'd be able to change it up.
I took a group of Club Members to Northern Ireland and Scotland last October for 11 days and it was so successful and the interest overwhelming that we may make it an annual trip. All this to say, I may have greater opportunity to wear a kilt but not yet certain.
So.......if you could only get one knowing you'd wear it about 1-2 a year at most.....is it worth it? I'm really torn here as it's a lot of money for Option #1.
Ultimately, I'll make up my mind but curious what y'all would do in same shoes....or Ghillie Brogues to be more specific
