New kilt and bicycle
Hey folks,
After two years of back and forth I'm taking the plunge and ordering myself a Buzz Kidder canvass kilt (forest green), as well as his casual kilt belt and country sporran (both black). I haven't even ordered my first one and I'm already saving money to buy a second one (County Armagh tartan) from the Scottish Tartans Museum. I'm pretty excited as I do a lot of volunteering with the Northern Arizona Celtic Heritage Society here in Flagstaff, and I always feel weird being the only guy in pants at our events.
Anyway, I do have a question. My primary mode of transportation is my bicycle. Maybe it isn't a big deal, but it seems to me that kilts and bicycles might not mix too well. I've read one message here where a fella wears shorts and switches to his kilt once he dismounts. Has anyone had any experience riding while kilted? Am I making a mountain out of a molehill?
Cheers,

Welcome! Kilts are an addiction for those predisposed to them.
As for the bicycle question, I really can't answer that, but I am certain someone here can. Welcome!

Hello and welcome to the rabble! I can't really help on the bicycle question, as I'm a widebody who doesn't exercise much! haha. As far as the buzz kidder, I'm sure you'll love it. I love mine. Actually I bought mine at the Flagstaff Celtic fest a few weeks ago.

Welcome to the forum from Scotland. You could of course go like some of the Highland Games guys and wear lycra bike shorts with a kilt on top.

I can field the Bike with kilt question. I've Mountain Biked while kilted and there really aren't many issues with it except that it just doesn't look good
As you peddal, the aprons want to seperate and with enough material like an 8 yd. traditional, you might rub a tire. Other wise the only issue really is no padding. I've ony done this once, and won't do it again unless I have to.
Bottom line, wear bike shorts and stuff the kilt in your pack and change over when off the bike. Just one man's opinion

I've tried it on a mountain bike and didn't like it as well as my biking shorts with a built in bike pant. I bike with my daughter to school almost everyday during the school year and find that it is just too difficult to control all of that material flying around going down the hill. It might work on a beach cruiser or something though. O'Neille
