New to kilts.

My name is John. I live in the very conservative Shenandoah Valley of VA. I will be purchasing a kilt soon...very soon. Most people I talk to are very open about seeing a man in a kilt. Some think I am crazy, including my lovely wife

I have never seen anyone in this area wearing a kilt, so I may be setting a new standard here

If anyone on this forum is from this area, I'd like to hear from you! I could use any advice you can give.

It is my belief based upon what people have said here that all Americans - perhaps because of television or real life - are conditioned to accept just about anything in the 21st century. I mean.....I've seen some pretty weird things myself, a whole lot more weird than kilts.

I don't know in your area if you have motorcycle dudes or punks or goths or any other group that is "breaking the rules" that society imposes on us but if not they are on television so everyone sees them.

I will tell you what other people on this board have told me - wear your kilt, enjoy yourself, and don't worry about what others think. I have been very surprised by the "non-reaction" I have gotten in public. I know people are watching me and they notice but no one says a word. I think a great deal of people have heard about this and have been waiting to see this in their neighborhood but that's just my theory.
