Hi there I seem to have joined this rabble by accident .
About a yeaer ago the Venture Crew (coed older 14-21 boy scouts)I am a leader with decided to hold a highland games themed campooree, so I started to look for kilts online to wear for the weekend. The prices were way above anything that I would have found afordable for such a purpose. Then I started to look for how to make sites found the tow most commen and printed off the instuctions. Following the instuctions with some inexpensive wool plaid I came up with the following kilt
This was fine but it took about 20 hours to put together as we wanted to put together about 12 kilts for the kids in the unit this was not practical so I kept looking and found the Bravehearts site which led me to Stillwater and Sportskilt and also to Xmarks. Looked at the sportskilt design basicaly pleat to the waist size sew on a waist band and add velcro. Two nights later we had 15 "kilts ".
After the campooree the kids decided that the kilts wold be a permanent part of the uniform so I have been wearing a kilt 2 or 3 times amonth for the last year and have found them comfatable .
In fact I decided to make a more rugged kilt out of canvas not a succes as I did not relise how prone to wrinkling canvas is next try was a cotten twill
box pleat with 2" pleats this made avery nice and quite dressy kilt .
here is the same kilt in costuction with help from my cat
My last project was a Xkilt in the same olive twill and with the first pleat of the apron done as an extra deep knife pleat and then sown into a pocket as per the instuctions frome O'Nielle. This was to wear at work in a machine shop and as such will not be worn with a sporron and Ineed some where to put my wallet and money for the tuck truck.
