New member - kiltmaker and kiltbook author
Hi folks!
Just discovered this site! I'm really excited about having a place to talk with others about kilts.
Stuff about me:
-I've been making traditional custom-made kilts for about 10 years.
-A few years ago, I wrote a book on kiltmaking that's designed to be a complete how-to tutorial for making a traditional kilt. Also has some stuff on kilt history, kilt care, and kilt evaluation. If anyone's interested, you can order The Art of Kiltmaking on line at http://www.celticdragonpress.com I'm also happy to answer kiltmaking questions.
-I'm a piper (playing for about 4 years; compete with Mohawk Valley Frasers Grade 4).
-In real life, I'm a geology professor.
Gotta run. Looking forward to talking with all of you!

First of all... welcome!
That book is sitting over in the library with all my tartan books! I think that the guys who are looking to make their own kilts REALLY should get this... read it... learn it... and use it! It's a whole lot less expensive than my education, and will serve the purpose better than you can imagine! Well done!

Barbara,
Welcome.
Your book is in my library, too. It is the intension of my wife, the person that actually sews, and myself, to make me a kilt.
We both love the book.
Thanks

Ahhh, Welcome Barb...
Funny how things work. Steve Ashton of Freedom Kilts posted that he used your book as a reference. So looked it up on Amazon and found they wanted $191 for it....still was gonna buy until I got smart and did a google search and found it for $30 from the printer http://www.celticdragonpress.com/index.html
In the process of ordering mentioned this site to you and now here you are! What a treat!

Welcome aboard Barbara and a happy St. Andrews Day! There is so much that a talented achiever such as yourself can do to "power" the kilt movement. I am about to start a new thread under the heading: "invent new garments". Hope that you enjoy X Marks the Scot. - Alan
