New Member from Massachusetts
Hello, please allow me to introduce myself.
My name is Peter Crowe, I am originally from Uddingston just outside of Glasgow. I also lived for many years in Upper Teviotdale and Hawick in the Scottish Borders.
I met my American wife while I was a studying at the University of Glasgow for an M.A. with Joint Honours in Politics & Scottish History (undergraduate) and thereafter an LL.M. in International Law (post-graduate). In 2003 we relocated to just north of Boston MA to get married. Following the birth of my son in 2008 I became a United States citizen (although I still also retain UK citizenship under British nationality law). I am a Secondary School History/Social Studies Teacher.
Like my father before me I have always worn the kilt since I was a little boy of three (and so does my son). I tend to wear it with due regard for tradition because that was the way I was brought up. However, it is not a uniform or a costume, and I dress it up or down depending on the weather or occasion. For example, I would wear it with an appropriately self coloured polo shirt/open necked short sleeved shirt on a hot day spectating at summer games in the States, but with proper hose, flashes, sporran, belt etc. and maybe brown nubuck or suede casual walking shoes, I have also been known to wear the kilt with appropriate woolen sweaters. In my youth I wore the kilt as part of my Scout uniform (1977-82), as did my dad when he was a Boy Scout in the 1950's.
My favourite way to wear the kilt is hunting/day dress of tweed lovat green Argyll jacket, lovat green hose, brown leather sporran, brown belt with brass buckle, brown or black oxford shoes, and horn handled sgian dhub with a white or appropriate self-coloured shirt and lovat green tie. For formal evening events, I wear my Prince Charlie coatee and vest in thistle green, cream or dark green hose, black ghillie brogues, silver mounted sgian dhub and dress fur and silver cantled sporran.
When I graduated from the University of Glasgow with my Master's degree I wore my Kilt and Prince Charlie underneath my academic gown and hood.
I rarely wear a bonnet with the kilt but when I do I prefer the Balmoral.
Anyway, it's a pleasure to find and join this site.

Welcome to XMarks! I am formerly from the South Shore of Mass but just recently moved west to Oregon! I think Mass could really use some more kilters, as living there my whole life until this year i don't recall ever seeing one on the South Shore area! So welcome and have some fun exploring all the areas of the forums!
