New Member from Missouri. Yes, the Show me State...
Hello fellow kilt wearers,
I have been using this site for info occasionally for quite some time. I have been wearing the kilt for about 20 years now, both formally, as a piper, and casually when possible/ Appropriate. So, having made use of the knowledge here, I decided it was time to pay back. I will probably have questions as well, but can add what I have experienced.
My Clan Tartan is Colquhoun, but I wear a wide variety casually, mostly Black Watch, some commercial, and one that I dont quite remember.....
Lets see... A quick synopsis of my past experience:
Raised in Alaska, went in the Army at 17. Became a 19D, Cavalry Scout and served 6 years honorably discharged.
Went from job to job, became farmer in Washington State for about 10 years. Used the money I saved to go to school and became a draftsman and technical Illustrator.
Moved to Montana (whole nother story) worked in the Stillwater Platinum mine, Tree trimmer and actually a cowboy for a while.
Moved to Missouri and worked as draftsman for a long time. Then moved farther out into the country and now am a heavy equipment operator at a quarry, because its available!
Own probably 7 or 8 kilts now. Including one "Great Kilt"
I am a passable piper, just dont put as much time in it anymore, oh....And by the way, I moonlighted as a drummer in several different rock bands, and one Red dirt band that we actually went to Nashville....Twice...and played. And got paid... Sigh...
Over now. These days I look forward to working my little farm & greenhouse when I can and reading on the Internet. Lots of news these days, and a great source for Scottish clothing, collectibles and Militaria. In fact, as some members have stated, I also assembled my entire #1 pipers uniform from ebay, and spent WAY less than I otherwise would have. Made my own Badger sporran with the mounted head. I can tell you how I did that as well.
Anyway, Im rambling, so, "Hello" and nice to be here!

Hi and a warm welcome from usually sunny Queensland - if a little wet this weekend!
A life most varied, indeed. Fascinating!
