Greetings all,
I've been lurking about the forums for a few days now, and reading around this site has been a great experience.
I got here needing to know *something* about kilts, after I told a friend that I'd sign up for the local Highland Games with him to toss a caber, no matter how badly (now to find *anything* about caber tossing! ). His stipulation was that it would be in a kilt. So here I am.
My heritage is Latvian, not Scottish...but I am all for MUGs, and I have a red beard, so hey...who knows...
I don't own any kilts yet, but reading numerous posts, there are a bunch I like (mostly MUGs and NeoKilts...I don't fancy myself a traditionalist). My wife is certainly looking forward to seeing me in one, and helped me pick out what will most likely be my first - a Holyrood Casual from USAKilt.
Michigan apparently hasn't had the gumption to register a tartan design yet, so I have no state tartan to call my own...That said, I just saw the XMTS tartan, and LOVE it. Does anyone stock that pattern to make a kilt out of?
Anyway, at the risk of babbling on...thanks for being here, one and all. You give a guy hope of not being a fool for not knowing about kilts.
Peace!
Atis K.

Red Beard and a caber? That's a recipe for Klobber alright.

Good choice on your first kilt. Rocky and Kelly do excellent work and Holyrood is a beautiful tartan.

Welcome to the forum!! I believe there are a couple of kilt makers / forum supporters who have ready access to the XMTS tartan. Check with Matt Newsome (Scottish Tartans Museum), Rocky (at USAK), or Steve (Freedom Kilts) as a starting point.
