New in Town
Hello People, Greeting from a newbie to the site from the next best place to Bonnie Scotland. That'll be NEW ZEALAND (Aotearoa - The Land of the Long White Cloud). I'm one of the outlaws (Clan MacGregor) and very proud of it.
I've never been to Scotland and never worn a kilt, but I hope to change that by wearing one to the Clan Gathering at Stirling in 2014 - we'll see.
My old (61) body will probably look horrible in a kilt - but things aren't always perfect.

You're 61 and never worn a kilt!? I'm older than you and I think I look darn fine in a kilt.

Greetings and Welcome from the Land of Enchantment.
I've been to New Zealand (north island only) and absolutely loved it. Also know that NZ has some mighty fine Highland Games and a rather large Scottish-descended population. You'll be in good company.
I think Hawkes Bay area has games end of March (probably not ideal for you - location wise). On South Island there is the Te Anau Tartan Festival in Fiordland -- never been to this one but some friends from Clan MacMillan in NZ have said they'll be there...

Welcome MacGregor to X-Marks from Delaware USA. I've always wanted to visit New Zealand, (as well as Scotland).
I'm older than you but I always get compliments when wearing a kilt (especially from my wife, ha ha!) but, more importantly, it feels good to wear a kilt. So... do it for yourself and if you do it right (or somewhat near right) you will get compliments too.

Thank you to all of you for the words of welcome. I just know this is going to be fun. I have two questions for my new 'X Friends'.
1. Weight of Tartan - I was figuring that because of New Zealand's temperate climate, a 13 oz 8 yard kilt would be better than the heavyweight tartans that are available. Comments?
2. Although I love the traditional "MacGregor modern" pattern and would be proud to wear it - I saw a 'black on black' tartan that anyone can wear called "Dark Island,Dark Shadow" and thought I'd look REALLY cool wearing that with black hose and shirt but MacGregor flashes, cummerbund and tie and MacGregor accessories. Watcha think??
