Newbie from Fort Lauderdale
Hello all, my name is Seann and I live in South Florida. I recently stumbled across this site while trying to learn about wearing a kilt to a formal occasion. I currently have one kilt but already have my eye on two others, it's a fast addiction and this forum won't be helping that lol.
I have been on many cruises and always bring a tux for formal night but in July, i'd really like to bring my kilt so I am poking around and learning about what I need to purchase. I also really need to find some better socks for sure, I never considered myself to have big calves but the socks I have barely reach my knees and are VERY tight, can hardly roll them down. Anyway, here is a recent pic of myself;

I have a few hobbies as well, one of those is costuming. I belong to a group called the 501st Legion - Everglades Squad, it's a Star Wars costuming group that does a lot of charity work and other fun events. Many of the guys in my squad like to wear kilts on occasion. For the Fort Lauderdale St. Patrick's Day Parade this year, we decided to wear our kilts with our armor to make it more fun. We were definitely the hit of the parade. Here is a pic of me from Saturday;

And of most of the squad that was in the parade;

Being a member and admin on other boards I can really see that this is a wonderful community here with lots of knowledgeable and helpful folks. I am very glad I came across it and I look forward to learning more.

Do you have to have a different kilt for when you're armored? It looks like it adds a significant amount to your middle's circumference.

Having just acquired the blu-ray edition of the movies will hopefully be able to see the tartans in better detail!

Welcome - a fine turnout.
After experimenting with many types of kilt hose I've come to prefer - and now only wear - the Lewis kilt hose from House of Cheviot that you can buy from the Scottish Tartans Museum.
Course, down there, sandals may be more the answer - sans kilt hose....

from Chicago. I second the motion for Lewis hose. I also prefer to use traditional garter ties to the flashes with elastic. They are much more comfortable, especially if you have big calves.
