Newbie greetings from south africa

I found this site by chance when I observed a fellow South African who was looking for information on a local Highland Regiment, which his dad apparently served in. I have now obviously joined as a keen supporter of the Kilt.

My first introduction to the Kilt and its many traditions occurred when I joined the Pretoria Highlanders Regiment in 1975, after completing compulsory military service. I remained active in the Regiment until 1996, when it was amalgamated with the Pretoria Regiment, also a Tank Unit. I enjoined many a traditional mess evening or Regimental ball while wearing the kilt, and even learnt a traditional dance or two! Although my Regiment no longer exists as an entity, the Pretoria Highlanders Pipe Band are still active and regularly takes part in gatherings and competitions.

I was born in South Africa and will not swop this beautiful country for any other. I currently work at South African Airways Technical as a Quality Assurance Manager, and stay in Kempton Park, and look forward to hearing from other likeminded people.
