    Newbie, lookin for a kilt

Hi, My name's Steve, I'll fill out my profile later but for now I was just wondering about my first kilt purchase. I'm not sure yet whether I'm going to buy from Stillwater or the Frugal corner. Any advice?

I can recomend Stillwater, I presently have 2 of their kilts. I just ordered one from Frugal Corner on Tuesday.. so I can's say anything about them. BUT I did call and leave a message on Tuesday morning inquiring about a size, and they called me back later in the day. Talk about customer service!

I would suggests that you check out the following link.. its a review of Frugal Corner:

I have a stillwater economy, and I'm happy with it as a first kilt.

    I have a Stillwater Thrifty, and it's a great jeans-substitute kilt.

Try a Stilwater Thrifty. They are the least expensive, well done, and the quickest delivery of all.

Frugal is great too, but not that quick, they seem to have supply problems sometimes- I've beem waiting about three weeks for the second part of my order. Ordered two Kilts & a belt; got one kilt so far.

from coastal North Carolina. I have two Stillwater and no experience with Frugal Corner. Their kilts look similar, probably for the same Pakistan manufacturer.

    First off ...

Welcome to X Marks the Scot!

Second, I highly recomend Stillwater Kilts. I have two of their heavyweight wool kilts and two of their standards. I have also purchased three sporrans, kilt hose, flashes, kilt hangers, and a belt from Jerry V. the owner of Stillwater over the last year and a half (not to mention a kilt for my Father-in-law). His customer service is second to none.

The SWK only come in a 24" length so if you require shorter you will need to hem or have it hemmed.

Are they as good as my Matt Newsome 5 yard handsewn Galbraith Ancient knife pleat kilt? Are they as good as my 8 yard Scottish made handsewn Black watch kilt?

    No.

But I still like them very much and keep an eye out for what Jerry brings in next.

Here are a review I wrote about them:
