Hi, all! Just wanted to introduce myself to you. I am from the mountains of Western North Carolina, near Asheville, I am a highland games participant, though not a good one, and try to be kilted as much as possible. I've been wearing kilts since I was about 12. Living in Asheville, being kilted is surprisingly accepted with few looks and never any negative comments - only positive, and a few questions.
I am (proudly) Scot on both sides - my father is a Barclay (www.clanbarclay.org) and my mother is a McSwain (MacQueen) affiliated with the Chattan Federation of Clans.
I am the proud owner of several kilts - 2 "good" ones (8 yard, dress) in family tartans, and several 4 yard casual kilts along with a couple of sport kilts from Stillwater Kilts. My favorite kilt to wear is a 4 yard "New York" tartan that was commissioned after the events of 9-11. For some reason that tartan makes me feel a special connection to the people that were directly affected, and I like to wear it in honor of those who's lives were lost (and it's a great conversation starter.) This particular kilt was purchased from the Tartan Museum in Franklin, NC.
Anyway, that's a start, and I look forward to learning and particpating around here.
Alta Go Bragh!
