Newbie from Southeast Michigan
My grandmother told me about her grandparents who spoke with a "funny accent" because they had immigrated from Scotland. I've checked my genealogy and find that I have blood from the clans of Scott, McKenzie, and McCray. I could also wear the Welsh Jones tartan.
My wife and I visited Scotland and Ireland this spring. Absolutely beautiful. The kilts were prohibitively expensive. I did pick up a Scott crested kilt pin.
I talked with my wife who is an accomplished seamstress. I bought her the Art of Kilt Making by Tewksbury. After reading it, she agreed that she would like to try her hand at making a kilt. She found a pink, gray, and black tartan and has begun making herself a kilt as practice.
I visited Kilted Bros in Cleveland. Looking at their low end kilts, my seamstress wife started pointing out how poorly the **** kilts there were made. They do have some well made wool kilts, but my wife wanted to try her hand on kilt made from one of my Clan tartans. I got a swatch of a teflon coated (House of Edgar Nevis) green Scott tartan and my wife fell in love with it.
Then about a month ago, I found a $25 Blackwatch kilt on eBay at All Safe All sellers. Seamstress wifey said go ahead and get it as it might offer some aids in kilt construction. She was quite pleased with this kilt. I must say that this kilt also is **** made. She said it was well made, the tartan lined up well on the pleats (unlike the previous **** kilt).
I recently picked up my wife at the airport wearing my kilt, kilt belt, sporran, flashes, white shirt, and Oxford University tie. She said that the kilt is killer sexy. It swings nicely and I've got runner's legs. We then went out to dinner. My wife noticed that my kilt was getting noticed favorably by the ladies. But, who cares about the wenches when I've got a queen on my arm?
