NJ/ NYC area newbie
Hello all.
I figure this is the most logical place to start as a newly kilted member. Though I have to admit, I was tempted to start posting right away in other threads, LOL.
My name is Reggie and I'm new to the whole kilt thing (read: 'wet behind the ears'). I found this board about a month ago and have been lurking until now. I have a few kilts in my possession (just got 'em this week) but I didn't have much time to do much else. I have observed this board to be very intelligent, with good sound advice and also very welcoming to others- hence my reason for registering.
A little about me (if you're bored, LOL):
My love of history, ren faires, SCA- type activities, and just plan freedom and common sense kind of led me to this point. I have always been an admirer of other cultures and the kilt in particular. While I can't say that I am Scottish I will say that my last name is and that there was definitely some Scottish in the family a few generations ago. That doesn't really matter since that has nothing to do with why I am here and why I am a newly converted kilt wearer.
My interest was only just interest up until about 2 months ago. In reality, for Halloween this year, I set out to do a Gladiator themed outfit. I started the research about 2 months ago and made my own tunic which authentically fell pretty much just to my knees. I can tell you that I have never felt as comfortable or as empowered(?) as when I wore it. I began to wonder what it would be like to wear something unbifurcated regularly and the kilt immediately came to mind. I did some Googling and came up with a slew of information and a community I never knew existed. What was mild interest became a call to action and I researched for over a month to learn everything I could about the history, tartans, accessories, do's and don't's, events, etc.
That's pretty much it.
I've got three kilts in my bedroom waiting to be worn.
Let the addiction...uh...I mean 'lifestyle' begin.

Welcome from just above the Mason-Dixon line in PA.
Why are the kilts waiting to be worn? Unless you run around the house in your underwear why not start at home. Then when you decided to go out for a meal or the paper you are already kilted.

Thanks CactusJack and Cacunn!
It's a little chilly and sunny here in the Garden State too.
At least it seasonable fall weather and not freak half day rain/ half day fog we've been getting this month.
Why have I waited?
No good reason. I received them both on the same day earlier this week. Needless to say, I was like a kid on Christmas morning when they got here.
I've been working late and that also has been a convenient excuse for me. Really, I have to admit that I am a little apprehensive about the first time. I told my friend that sets up these sunday afternoon relaxed get togethers at a music bar in NYC that I would come this sunday- kilted! Now there's no backing out. LOL
I will probably do something local though on saturday. I'm looking for something long sleeved and medium weight to wear with my kilts for the cold weather. Probably a good idea to go kilted and that will be a good test of back bone for me.

Thanks!
I'm trying to find my way back over there for 'work/ vacation'.
It's so much better when the company pays the tab.

Welcome from Virginia!
Whereabouts in NJ are you from? I only ask because I have family in the greater NYC area and a bunch of Jersey college friends, so I've been in Edison, Hamilton, Metuchin and so on...
