Not just Irish, Scotch-Irish
Always known we immigrated from Ireland, but a recent trek along the West Highland Way led me to the discovery that my ancestors came first from Scotland to Ireland, then to America.
Couldn't quite nail down the family tartan, so came home with 8 yards of Scottish National, just to plant the seed.
Thought I'd just have it in the closet to say I had one, but after wearing it around the house (man its comfy on a hot day), I gathered a few accessories and decked out for a wedding from Argyll jacket and vest, to real fur sporran, hose on down. The spousal unit was hanging on tight!
Now I'm hooked, and am afraid my children's college funds are at risk...

Hello, Jim, and welcome from a Scotsman living in middle England.
Intriguing that you've discovered Scottish roots - your trip along the West Highland Way has done a lot for you in more ways than one!

Well met Jim. A clinging wife is not always a bad thing for kilted men. As she becomes more used to the situation, she can stand apart and think or say, "That's my man." Welcome to the attitude.

Welcome to the rabble Jim.
While I am here I am curious how you discovered the two-stage emigration from Scotland. I suspect the same trail for my ancestors. I would love to nail down our Scot source, but so far there is no hard evidence, and the 'rumor' that my GGG Grandfather was from County Cork Ireland cannot be dismissed without such evidence.
And also, I understand that the term "Scotch-Irish" is more a description of a couple whiskies than the ancestry of a Scot-Irish descendant, but that's just me.
Regards,
Tom
