Old World Blood, but Newbie (New Blood) Member
Hi All,
I'm excited to be a new member. I always knew I had a Scottish (also Irish and English) bloodline, but I just had my DNA analyzed. 92.2% Great Britain/Irish. Close to 25% Scottish, including 7.1% Aberdeenshire. Too cool!
Being newly confirmed/validated I haven't searched for any local groups yet, but will soon. Anyone in the Indianapolis, Indiana, USA area give me a shout!
What brought me to the forum is my upcoming wedding next year. (June 2020) I'll be 50 in a few weeks; never married/ no kids. I'm blessed to have finally found an amazing girl to spend the rest of my life with, and wanted to include my roots in our ceremony. Thus, happily found this forum to answer my proper Highland dress questions.
I also consider myself a dapper gent and do my best to follow the rules of dress. (At least in public! lol) I even had a subscription to GQ magazine at 16, so this has been a lifelong ritual. I've read quite a bit of interesting opinions and information here and I am pleased to be a member of this community. Thanks!

Welcome to the "Great Rabble"!
A great place to start for general concepts is this old thread:
http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/f...-attire-46888/ Two long-time members have done a marvellous job of giving general guidance. After you've picked your level, you can post for help on specifics if you like.
Cheers!

Well met and welcome new friend. Once you get your ensemble together (to your tastes) get used to wearing your kilt in public, occasionally. This will ease some tension you may have during your upcoming wedding (at least as far as your wardrobe). When you get comfortable wearing a kilt, others will notice how easy you make the "look" seem natural. Glad to have you with us.

Welcome from just down the road (I-65). I, too, am an almost-50 never-married, but have yet to find someone to put up with me.
Congrats on getting some clarity on your lineage, at least through your DNA. You should still follow the paper trail, though. I'm trying the paper trail first while saving for the DNA testing and trying to figure out which company to go with.

Thanks for the Welcome!
Thanks all for the welcome messages!
Nice to see an open and active community.
Father Bill great thread! Appreciate the link.
Tarheel, thanks for the advice. Though I haven't worn a kilt before, I've always been comfortable in my own skin. Now if you can give me advice on general wedding jitters I'll be all set! LOL
EagleJCS, good to know we're "neighbors." My momma's from E-town, so I'm familiar with the area. She's the historian in the family, and I'm getting ready to sign her up for a few genealogy websites so she can start the paper trail. When she tires/hits a dead end I will continue. As far as DNA services, I highly recommend (to everyone) My Living DNA https://livingdna.com/ They are a UK based company and have much more detailed information on that area. (That's how they were able to find I am specifically 7.1% Aberdeenshire, while most other companies would just say "Northern Scotland.") And it was only $80USD. I thought a DNA test would also help my paper search if I hit a dead end. Hope that helps! As far as a life mate, don't give up. I was a confirmed bachelor, but I found my "unicorn." (I did have to go outside the US to find such an amazing woman though! LOL)
To everyone else, I appreciate the warm welcome. I'll be depending on all of you to help me get acquainted with the community and give me some great advice/opinions.
Slàinte!
