From Pittsburgh PA USA to Kamloops BC Canada (and not back again!)

    Hi all!

My my my! It has been over a year since I've been here. And wow -- there have over 2,000 posts since then so I have some catching up to do.

Be that as it may, it has been a journey of over 3000 miles from Pittsburgh PA in the states to Kamloops BC in Canada, which is now my new home as I am now a permanent resident of Canada.

Along the way, for various reasons, one of which that I had gained about 40 lbs, I stopped wearing my kilts. Actually, I wore my denim Alt.Kilt during the drive through Alberta and Sascatchewan, and then I marched in the Santa Claus parade wearing a tartan in +4 degrees Celsius weather with my brother Knights of Columbus (very unofficial uniform as it were ..and COLD!)

Well, this past June, I did something about my 'stuff' and started Weight Watchers. I've lost 25 lbs so far, over 75 more to go, and I've got kilts that are fitting again .. and in the future, like next year, will have kilts to sell so that I can replenish my supply with ones tat fit my leaner shape.

Kamloops, here in British Columbia, is very kilt friendly. I've seen two other guys in Utili-Kilts out grocery shopping, and have spoken with one of them. The general reaction from others has been always thumbs up -- or -- and perhaps this is worse than a negative reaction -- no reaction at! There have been no snotty teenage girls looking to cause trouble or laugh at the 'guy in the skirt', no snickers or snarky comments.

Even wore my denim kilt to Weight Watchers and mentioned on the community on-line bulletin board there that I wanted to lose weight to look good in a kilt. Posted an older picture -- and wow did I get the positive responses.

One other reason that Kamloops is great place to wear kilts is the fact that it gets bloody hot here. Just last week it was 99 degrees F/ 38 degrees C -- with a feels like of 104 F/ 40 F. On those days a kilt beats shorts by a mile!

So, that's where I am -- happy to be here in Canada and happy to be here

    Tony

Hi, Tony, and welcome back to X Marks from the bottom end of Africa.
When my great-grandfather and his bride left Bremen in 1879 their plan was to settle in Kamloops, where an uncle of his had gone.
How he got to the Cape Colony instead is a long story, but I just wanted to say the place sounds familiar.
Glad to know you are succeeding in the battle against excess avoirdupois!
    Regards,
    Mike
