    Santa Rick

First time on since becoming a member. My wife is actually the Scot in this family. I'm actually of Germanic descent, yet it seems there is some Ancient DNA spatterings of Scottish descent in there somewhere, around the 1st century. She is of the Ray's and split off from the Campbells', some time around 1660-1700 with Matthew Campbell Rhea. We actually lived in Campbellsville Ky, for a short while without the above info. LOL. We have looked back with Ancestry.com and went as far as 244AD.

    Welcome,

And have you ever seen the "German Heritage" Tartan? It was designed specifically for those of German ancestry.

My wife's people are Pennsylvania Dutch so this is the Tartan she wears.

I will second Steve's recommendation regarding the German Heritage tartan. I'm about equal parts German and Scottish, and I'm considering that tartan as a possible future purchase.

Since my wife is more Scottish than I am (with a much clearer clan affiliation) I would also consider wearing her family's tartan. (They're a sept of MacDonald.) So I wouldn't rule out Ray or Campbell if I was in your situation.

There are also dozens (if not hundreds) of universal and fashion tartans you could choose from. (That's too extensive of a topic for me to want to address in this thread.)

Welcome from a Scotsman living in the English midlands. You've traced your ancestry an impressively long way! I didn't realise it was possible to go that far back.

The usual precedent for women is to adopt the husband's tartan as well as his name when married. While this is the direct opposite of your situation, it may be some inspiration for you.
Additionally, clans were not originally made of only direct blood descendants of the chieftain. Even today, centuries later, this is still the case. Clan members were those who fell under the authority of the chieftain and clan, and those who pledged their loyalty in peace and war to the clan. By pledging their loyalty, they became a brother to the chieftain, part of his extended family.
Adopting her tartan is a nice show for your inlaws, but select whichever of the thousands you like best and feel most comfortable.

Welcome! Based upon your name I suspect you do the Santa thing at Christmas. A number of us here do so as well. Check out the Clan Claus Society. We even have our own registered tartan.
