Scottish Texan
I am new here, but was brought up proud of my ancestry. We hail from a mix of the McDonalds (yes, I know why the "a" is missing) and MacLeods. My father never wore a kilt, but I am proud to do so. Although I am a McDonald, I prefer to wear the MacLeod of Harris due to our mix with them. Mostly wear kilts to festivals and such, but am considering wearing when not at work or sailing.
I have not gone formal yet, mostly casual with my tartan and often a polo style shirt.
Only concern I have of late is there is a great pub locally, that is founded and run by original Brits. I was thinking of stopping by on the way from a festival last weekend and found myself hesitant, since I was not sure of their reaction of a "yank" coming in wearing a kilt.
Any input would be appreciated.
Thank you all, I am so glad I found this forum.

Er well, the MacDonalds and the MacLeods did not always see eye to eye. Anyway, welcome, from Inverness-shire. If it were me, I would wear the kilt to the pub and if they complain(they won't) just say "Jock from Inverness-shire said it would be alright".

Hello and welcome from Savannah, GA.
I've had two encounters with native Scots here in town, one a family of tourists, and one a new member of my church... in both cases they were pleased to see a kilt being worn in Savannah and appreciative of my interest in my Scottish heritage. Wear the kilt!

Hi James,
Welcome to XMarks from the other side of the Atlantic in Norfolk, England. I am married to a MacLeod and wear the MacLeod Dress (the Loud MacLeod). As for going to the pub - does the landlord want your money? If he does, he won't complain. If all else fails, follow Jock's advice. His word is law when it comes to kilt wearing.
Regards
Chas
