Scouter from Michigan
Hello! New here from Michigan. Was challenged by one of my scout boys to have us all wear kilts to Philmont (BSA's High Adventure Ranch in New Mexico) this summer. Being a Woodbadge member, I selected the MacLaren tartan for the three of us to wear. I'm converted! Never again will I wear shorts while hiking. Have passed on the SW website to other Scouters who are very interested in purchasing their own! Just ordered a Standard MacLaren from SW so I can have a more 'formal' kilt for Courts of Honor and other Woodbadge events.
Looking to make my own and am starting with fabric purchased in the Fashion District in New York - a Black Stewart - will pleat it one the stripe. (The information found here has been amazing!). This will be my 'practice' kilt as really looking to make one in the Nova Scotia tartan - Irish heritage (County Cork) with strong roots from Canada. Looking forward to learning much more and possibly meeting other Scouters or members that are in the Grand Rapids area.

from a fellow michigander who is currently located in Oklahoma!
Also, as it happens, I JUST started as a Tiger Cub leader for my son's Tiger Den. My pack is a "waist up" pack...meaning, and I was told, we can wear anything below the waist. I've thought of asking about the kilt, but being the new guy I'm not sure that's something I'm ready to do.
Great to have you here!!!
