search for a H.L.I Kilmarnock bonnet
Hello all,
I am brand new to these forums, I got here through my search for a H.L.I Kilmarnock bonnet, I served with the regiment in the 1950s, we served in Cyprus, and four of our lads where killed in the fight against E.O.K.A, in fact, in the 4 years of the conflict, just under 400 servicemen and women lost their lives, next year, 50 years from the end of the conflict, a memorial will be raised in memory of all those who died, and I God willing, I will be there, to see the unveiling, in Honer of my dead comrades, trouble is, I cant find an H.L.I. kilmarnock bonnet anywhere, I have tried the R.H.F HQ, & museum in Glasgow, Ive been searching the net, Ive even got one of the RHF sergeant majors looking for me, and my daughter found this site and sent it to me, I have a T.O.S, and I can get a Glengarry, but our, dress headgear, was the Kilmarnock bonnet, I find it hard to believe, that of all the thousands made, not one exists to this day, can any of you guys help please, it must have the H.L.I. dicing and a GREEN toorie, green representing the light infantry.

Can't help, but from coastal North Carolina. At least one of our members is currently in the TA with the new RRS.

You might try Glengarry Hats in Canada. If they don't have it, they may be willing to make some up. www.glengarryhats.com
This board is rife with do it yourselfers who've turned out some excellent caps. Hope they see this thread. If - a recreation is okay.
A noble gesture your commemoration.

Try this link. http://giftshop.scottishtartans.org/bonnets.htm
At the bottom is an older period Kilmarnock bonnet. I'm not sure if this is the style you are looking for, but these are made to order, so maybe you could work out the details. Best of luck!

Afterthought,
Maybe one of the hat makers would be willing to do a run for the ceremony. I'm sure others would be interested too.

I think the link I provided is not the style you are after. Too old a style. I did some searching and, if I'm right, the style you are after is similar to today's balmoral, except the brim is broader and stiffer. Could a modern balmoral be modified with an insert that would give it that appearance?
These folks make headwear, though they are in the U.S. Maybe they could be of some assistance. http://www.jbyous.com/Headwear2.html
