Slàinte! From Eugene Oregon
Hi, folks.
I'm a part-time kilt wearer from Eugene. I've been wearing a Utilikilt for about 3 years now, and have been planning on getting more kilts for some time. I was going to order a bespoke "8 yard" kilt but of late have been toying with the idea of making a couple kilts on my own first. One reason is that I'm losing weight and don't want to spend ~$1000 on a kilt that may not fit me after a year. My thought is that I can make a kilt or two out of less expensive fabric while losing the weight and then get serious about it. Also, even if I ordered a bespoke kilt tomorrow it would likely take several months to arrive, and I'd have plenty of time to make one or two in the meantime.
I like the Utilikilt, but it's too long (I didn't know better when they sold it to me and they seem to like them long), and I think I would prefer one that sits on my waist instead of my hips. While not married to the idea of a fully traditional kilt as the only acceptable kind (whatever a fully traditional kilt is), anything I would make would be tradition-inspired at least. I have purchased Barb's book from which I've learned a tremendous amount in one reading, and between that and these fora I expect I'll get to know quite a bit about how kilts work.
I've been a registered member here for about six weeks, but this is my first post. My lurking tells me this is a friendly, vibrant community and I anticipate I'll enjoy being here.
