Soxs for Kilts

Hello all, I have been here on the board for a little while and I just got my first Kilt. Its the Irish national tartan from Stillwater. What color socks should I get or does it matter. I like the black socks myself but it seems everyone usually has white or off-white.

First off

I perfer off white. It goes with everything! you can get into more colors as you go along. I would start with off white!

My first pair of kilt hose were off white, I hardly wear them anymore. Let me ask you how will you be wearing the kilt is it for formal outings or will you be wearing it more casually? If it's strictly formal or dressy occasions then I would say go for the off white, if you plan on wearing it out more casually then I would say the black or bottle green would work out well. Black hose can also be worn formally if you want.

I like the black hose with the Stillwater IrishNational flashes and a Black shirt with that kilt

The general reccomendation for hose colour that goes with anything seems to be 'oatmeal' around here. Personally, I wear black hose (and indeed black accessories generally) a lot of the time, but I think this is pretty much a personal foible.

You better watch out!

This is one of those subjects that can get quite touchy!

The most common advice is DO NOT WEAR WHITE! Well unless you are a piper, or dressed in a VERY formal situation, and even then another color may be appropriate.

Find good accent colors to accompany your kilt, up until recently red kilt hose were not very common, but now they are seen more frequently, and can look great!

Use good fashion sense, good starting colors are off-white, oatmeal, black, green or blue. But you will find that wearing the kilt changes the whole thought process of what to wear.

My first pair of kilt hose were off-white, they go with everything, oatmeal is also very versatile.

For a great slection of colors go to www.scottishtartans.org and take a look in the gift shop. Matt has a great selection of kilt hose.

I also have Oatmeal, Navy Blue, Lovat Green and Brick Red kilt hose, these work well with my kilts. A good selection of kilt hose in the drawer will help you change the looks of your kilt oufits easily.

Thanks everyone, I am partial to the black, but I wanted to get a consensus. (Plus, everything I have that's white gets dirty.) I will be wearing it casually, I will save up for my Clan Fletcher kilt and use that for formal settings.

from coastal North Carolina. What sock color? Any color you like as long as it doesn't clash with the major color in the kilt.

I'm with you on this one, black goes well with everything and it's my personal favorite for all occasions. I think off-white looks better when scrunched down though.
