Well, here it goes....
I am certainly not Gaelic, or a celt, and my ancestors actually are part of the house of orange.....sorry....but I sure like to quietly rebel, and I sure like the idea of being comfortable when hiking, kayaking, camping, lounging, etc. I read about people wearing kilts when hiking on a hammocking forum, and thought....hmm. I saw a MacEntyre in a black watch kilt, and he looked fine and it worked for camping. I am Canadian, so I see a lot of pipe bands, etc, and Celtic and Gaelic music gets me going. In short, this Dutch Canadian is certainly planning on making an xkilt, and purchasing some casual kilts in the future. We will see from there.....Thanks for listening, and I sure am learning lots from the lurking I have done.

from the Big Apple.
It sounds like a traditional kilt is not your style, but are you aware that there is a Dutch Friendship tartan? A member of the forum recently posted photos of himself and his young son in kilts made with it.

Welcome
Welcome aboard, from Roseville, California.
Although it may not be a wise choice for a knock around kilt, the Dutch Friendship tartan is quite stunning. See "Riverkilt"s photos for an example of it in a kilt.

from Chicago. There are a number of Dutch tartans (click here), but there's also a Maple Leaf tartan which is quite nice.
