Where do you buy your kilts?

    Dear members-
I have bought my kilts from Kilt Society in Scotland online. They have been great to work with. I have purchased accessories from USA Kilts but never a Kilt. Curious to know if anyone has purchased a kilt from USA Kilts and what their experience was like and if they liked the quality of the workmanship. Are there any other kilt makers you can recommend for me to check out? Thanks.

Yes, Rocky and his people at USA Kilts are fine. I don't have one for myself, but arranged for one for a friend.

You will do well with any of the XMarks advertisers shown around the edges of the page. My own recommendation is if possible, to go and get measured by the individual who's going to put the needle through the cloth.

    Scotland

Well, I actually live in Scotland so I can't really recommend any American kilt makers or shops. All my stuff I get in Scotland, though may be made in Pakistan.

Most of my stuff I get from Tartan House of Scotland. Sometimes I get stuff from other kilt shops, they may even be independent. Sometimes from online, mostly Ebay. So, my point is, if you're ever in Scotland, go into Tartan House of Scotland. Cheap, affordable and looks good. Although it isn't first class stuff, it is good if you haven't reached financial success.

I have a pv semi-traditional kilt from usakilts and the quality is excellent. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy a wool kilt from them.

I also bought my 3yr old son’s kilt from usakilts and while it’s construction is more like the usakilts casual kilt (velcro rather than straps), the quality is also excellent and it was made to measure so the fit is great on him.

I bought my favorite kilt from MacIsaac Kilts in St Peters, Nova Scotia. Mac is a master kilt maker, one the best I have run across. He only does 16 ounce wool and every bit of the kilt is hand sewn by him in house, no contractors. He is rather quick, less postage to have is shipped, and produces the best product I have ever seen. Look him up on the net....you will not be disappointed.

My two Tartan Made to Measure Kilts I wear are Burnett's and Struth's 4 yd Casual Kilts made from Lochcarron's 13 oz Braeriach Medium Weight Tartan Fabric. I have no complaints at all with either kilt, The work is A1, and the Kilt looks good, hangs right and have the Swing to the Pleats the Lassie's like. I can put one on in the Morning, and even in our hot humid weather we've had lately, hardly noticed the kilt at all. I actually found wearing one of my pair of shorts in this weather more uncomfortable.

I have one from USA Kilts, combination of hand and machine sewing, and it's a fine kilt. I have another completely hand-sewn by Barbara Tewksbury (who you can find on this forum), and it's awesome. She's making me a third right now. From personal experience, I highly recommend either.

I have several kilts from USA Kilts - 3 8yrds, 1 5yrd, and 2 PVs as well as several tweeds. All are of high quality. Any issues I've had - lost buttons - Rocky has provided replacements at no cost. Service is good and very responsive. I've also purchased several accessories and have not been disappointed. Any issues I've had with any of the sponsors here have been dealt with quickly and to my satisfaction (a good group to deal with).
