Youngs of Scotland
Greetings from Northern California!!
A great thank you to the keepers of this forum, I have learned so much just viewing as a guest.
My interest in Scotland has been fueled by the recent discovery (thanks Anscestors.com) of my paternal Grandmother's Scottish heritage. She passed away when I was quite young, and with a surname like Hoffman, I had always self-identified as German on my Father's side, and Norwegian on my Mother's.
My Grandmother's Maiden Name was Young. I have traced it back to the 1740's, and a Quaker named Hercules Young, who came from Benholm, Kincardineshire, Scotland.
So this begins my discovery. I hope to learn as much as I can about the traditions, and any light anyone can shed on my anscestors.
Cordially,
Rich

Hi and welcome to XMarks. For what it is worth, Samuel John Young, born 1685/1690 in Craigforth, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, is my sixth great-grandfather. He is the father of Hercules Young, born, according to the info with which I was provided, in 1727 in Scotland. Hercules is the brother to my direct ancestor Morgan Young Sr. born in 1713 in Craigforth, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
Studies have shown that women who gain a few pounds live longer than men who mention it.

Rick, appreciate the info. I was very confident in the genealogy up to Hercules, but beyond that had alternatives for his Father, including Samuel. This really helps.
Did your people stay in the Fallowfield area of PA for more generations? My branch stayed there through my Father's birth.
