    Accidental christening of acrylic kilt

I got home from work yesterday evening and, in my usual routine, made a nice cup of coffee to enjoy on the porch whilst relaxing with my wife as we talk about our day. I had changed out of my work clothes and put on my knock-about-the-homestead acrylic cheapo kilt. I don't mind getting it dirty, wrinkled, or otherwise damaged, so it's my go-to kilt for the evenings, when I don't have to impress anyone. Given its poor quality, I don't leave the homestead in it. It's strictly for home use.

Anyway, I was taking that first heavenly sip of coffee when something went horribly wrong. The hot coffee "went down the wrong tube", and I choked violently, spilling virtually the entire cup right in my lap.

Now, first of all, I'll say that I was thankful for the extra layers of thick overlapping material that a kilt apron provides, as well as the gap between them and my... err... sensitive parts. Had I been wearing shorts, I would have severe burns/blisters in the worst possible place for a fellow to have them. But secondly, I'll say that I'm thankful it was a machine-washable acrylic kilt that I was wearing, and not one of my wool kilts! On both counts, it was just a laughing matter instead of a crying one.

when i was a waiter, i collided with a fellow waitron when i was coming out of the kitchen with a freshly brewed pot of coffee. i ended up with a blister the size of my hand on my neck and chest.

Tobus, you were really lucky, that you had a solid kilt, and apron protected you from burns.

Many years ago my mom dropped a tray full of cups of hot tea. She scalded herself with fast boiling water. Thin skirt - no protection. Result - extensive burns, pain and a pair month of treatment.
It was terrible. Be careful with hot drinks

Right then, I'm off to put on a safety garment aka a cheap, machine washable, kilt

That's why I love my acrylics for around the house. Won't leave the house to check the mail or take out the trash, lest I be seen, but perfect for the comfort. Also great when doing crafts (instant tray), and yes, I've spilled a few drinks there. They do have their place

Pants is only a present tense verb here. I once panted, but it's all cool now.
