Any Amerikilt owners here? If so, what are your thoughts on their product?
Thanks.

Amerikilts
I do not currently own an Amerikilt but have in the past. First their customer service is very good and the owner Michael Butler is very helpful. The kilts are lightweight fabric. While your mileage may vary, and obviously how you use and wear the kilt plays into this, but I struggled with maintenance. I would spend an extended period pressing the kilt and within 5 minutes of putting it on it was wrinkled, and within a short period it was really wrinkled and the pleats looked bad. That said I know there are some people who like them quite a lot, they do include a matching sporran made of the same material as the kilt. So perhaps for hiking and outdoor activities they might work for you. It kinda of depends on what you want. If you desire a more traditional style kilt in tartan a PV casual is not appreciably more money.

Thanks for the input. I'll keep that in mind.

I owned two for many years and basically traded up to USA Kilts and Utilikilts.
They are great for light wear, mowing the lawn, hanging around the house, but the lack of pockets (only 1) was always a drawback, since I didn't like the sporran design and i carry a lot of stuff in my pockets.
If you live in a very warm weather area they would probably come in handy because of the weight. The quality has always been very good and Mike Butler is great to talk to and work with and is very enthusiastic about the kilts.
If you want something a little more formal I would go to USA Kilts for about $20 more, but they are a great starter kilt if you are not sure if you are going to like wearing a kilt, since I think they are still less than $100.

I have two standards that I wear around the house and two special order models (no snaps) that I wear at camp-out Folk Music Festivals -- dry weather camping, since the fabric takes quite a while to dry.
The standard version is not particularly friendly to my early season vs. late season waist size variations. Thus the special order versions without snaps (belt absolutely necessary).
The OD fabric seems lighter than the khaki fabric. The black and forest green versions that I’ve seen can show some color fading after x washes.
Heavier than an Elkommando, lighter than a USAK casual or Sport Kilt (specialty fabric), lighter and cheaper than a UtiliKilt.

I have an Olive one, and I love the thing. I don't own a Utilikilt Original, but according to their website, the Original is 8.5 oz material - exactly like the Amerikilt. I went with the Amerikilt because I like it's wider apron, I prefer a sporran to pockets, and well, it's less than half the price of the cheapest Utilikilt.

Let's see... I have personally owned three. I wore my first one out, then I got two more. I love the things and wear them all the time. The only problem is that the material they use wrinkles really easily, and really badly. Personally, I don't care- it's not like I wear them to church or weddings or other such events. I wear them to the leather store, camping, hiking... all places where you don't need, or want, to look your best. So with that in mind, I leave you with this image:

And yes, I did fall backwards and make sand angles. I would never, ever do that in a wool tank... the sand would never come out!!

I own a khaki one and the wrinkles were a bother to me as well, but other than that i loved it. But I would rate the weight at medium, very comfy,

I own an AK Khaki that I wore to my brothers August wedding. It was a very hot day in Louisiana but I was cool. Got several good comments and I dare say most there had never seen a kilt in person. Have worn it several time and wrinkles are not a problem with me as I am a 29 year retired army man. I know my way around an iron. Here in south Mississippi heat is a factor. AK fills that bill in lightweight.

As I stated above, I do love mine. I did think of one thing that bugs me, though. The silly 2" belt loops drive me kinda nuts. While I was waiting for the kilt, I went out and bought a 2" web belt. When they say 2" they mean 2". The buckles on the belt are of course slightly more than 2", So they won't go through the belt loops. On occation I've just ignored the belt loops altogether, and worn my 2 1/4" web pistol belt over them. (the old one with the holes for Alice clips - looks great with the Olive kilt ) I'm just going to have to break down and buy the 2" belt from Amerikilts.
What is everyone else doing for a belt?
Have Fun,
