Boots with kilt
Just remarks & possible comments if you gents don't mind...
I like to wear my black high-top work boots to the Highland Games. I just don't seem to fit in with the look of the brouges, although if I am at a dinner or Kirkin' or similar, I wear black dress shoes. I am just a jeans, t-shirt & boots, blue-collar type of guy, always have been.
I am 48, but feel a member of the younger set when in the company of many of my friends at these festivals.
Am thinking of buying a dedicated pair of nice work boots, as I am forever trying to put a shine on my everday scuffed-up pair for the games. I do always wear the hose, sgian dubh, flashes, sporran, Jacobite shirt etc. Oh yeah, & of course my kilt!!!
Anyone else prefer to wear boots as I do ??

Many people here, (as well as I) wear boots often while kilted. I think it is perfectly acceptable as casual wear!

I often wear black Doc Martin boots with my kilts. I will be wearing a pair of brown 3/4 height boots on Saturday with a kilt.

I only wear boots with kilts, no other footgear will do. 'Course, I don't do the formal look either...

Yes, they are much less formal footwear with kilts. But they can still look good.

Thanks, folks. It is good to see that my point of view is not as unique as I had thought. Guess it is just that many of the people in my clan group are much more (how shall I put this?) financially mobile and educated than am I and as such tend to dress a certain way which reflects that. But to each his own...

Boots? Sure. As a personal preference when I wear boots with my kilts (which is most of the time) I usually don't wear flashes or a sgian dubh , instead I wear the hose "scrunched" down.
Check out some of the pics in this thread to see what I mean:

I've worn hikers many times, if going real casual, I will wear regular work(crew) socks scrunched down( not kilt hose), way less bulky.
