Dissappointed with UK
This kilt saga has been going on six months now, I ordered a workmans, they sent one that I really could not understand how it could fit, it was way to big.
I sent it back, they said they would replace it, still nothing.
I find this company is either too busy or too lazy to provide the level of customer service I am accustomed to from other kiltmakers.
They are slow to reply emails/phone calls, or just don't reply at all, I'm fed up with them.
If the wretched thing ever turns up it will likely end up on ebay.
I phoned UK the other day, they said they are in the process of moving, the computers were down and emails were not getting through.
heck if I ran my business like that.....they didn't reply the call anyway, maybe their phones are down too.
I know there are a lot of satisfied UK wearers here, but my first experience with them tells me it was a big mistake, especially as I compare them with the small, reliable kiltmakers that support this forum.
end of rant!

I'm sorry your first experience with UK has been so horrible.
The last time I called and spoke with Otto everything was up for grabs, he was going to be the only one left in the old building, they were moving desks around and he couldn't find anything.....
He said that even on the phone they weren't taking any special orders, the manufacturing group was churning out STANDARD kilts and when I called he didn't use a computer, he just got my measurements and checked out the stock to see what was hanging on the racks and that is what he could sell me.
There have been stories that because they are expanding they are hiring more people who don't know what they are doing and the quality has gone downhill.
So....I hate to say it.....but I ordered all the Utilikilts I could possibly want now BEFORE they hit this growth spurt and also before Wal-Mart starts selling kilts and puts them out of business. Oh....yeah....I'm the guy who thinks that kilts will become madly popular in the next ten years.
On another topic.....I found a guy at church who as a hobby creates EXACT DUPLICATES of Utilikilts. I saw him wearing one from a distance on Sunday and I sure couldn't tell the difference. In the future who knows.....I might be getting my kilts from him.

Well I thought I had ordered a denim UK some time back but after waiting some time they still hadn't taken the payment from my credit card and when I contacted UK they had no record of the order so it looks like their on-line ordering service was in a muddle for a time. I believe they had meantime stopped doing blue denim UK's and since then I've bought other kilts elsewhere so it looks like I'll be doing without buying a UK.

Graham,
Sorry to hear about your experience with Utilikilts. I had them lose one of my orders a year-and-a-half ago (NOTE: Waaaaayyy before their growth spurt and move), and re-ordering over the phone was ... entertaining.
If they haven't charged your card yet, I say cancel the order and get yourself another RKilt. The price will be more, but the fit, finish (seam-work etc.), and wear will be better. And you already know that Robert has outstanding customer service.
And before anyone gets too upset - I have three UKs. I wear them regularly. But I think there better non-traditional kilts to be had - either to be bought or made.

Don't forget Freedom Kilts as another alternative

Of course I am aware of RKilts and Freedom, I have kilts from both and both are excellent.
I dunno, something came over me and I thought I would like to try one of their kilts just for the heck of it.
I put it all down to experience.

I asked Otto about the denim ones and he said they will get back to those once they get their act together after the move.

Sorry to hear about your unsatisfactory experience.
I was considering UK a number of weeks back... looked at some up close and came to the conclusion that I didn't like the way they hung, the look of the fabric, or the stitching. I also came to the conclusion that I wasn't partial to the snaps on the front either.
To be fair, they get a lot of repeat business and many favorable reviews... so they must have something going for them. Different strokes for different folks.

I have two UK's...one I ordered from them and one purchased on this board. The workmanship is excellent but the customer service they provide well....just royally sucks. I won't go into the angst I had to deal with on the first order but I can say right now without a doubt I will NEVER order anything from them again. A good product but customer service just doesn't work. Until they manage to get their act together DO NOT order from Utilikilts. Off the rack at a games or other venue is a different situation. I would never call, email or order on the web as they just don't have it together.

They still can't fathom why anybody would want a denim kilt without cargo pockets so I'll not be purchasing one anytime soon either.
(C'mon Steve, I have a truck to move cargo, I don't need some big **** flaps of fabric ruining the lines of me kilts, savvy ?)
