    Enjoying 'Em

Several months ago I bought an olive utility kilt from Amerikilts, put it on and paused in my garage, working up the courage to go out in my front yard to do some weeding. I kicked myself in the posterior, taking hoe in hand and going to work in plain sight of anyone who would be driving or walking by. That was months ago, and now I have worn my utility kilts (from UT Kilts; like those the best) down in Phoenix to the mall, to the oriental grocery store, and here in Snowflake to the post office, to Ace Hardware and the small town grocery store. And now I go walking, kilted, with my wife. (she is so precious; supporting me in all my kilt wearing!) During one walk, a group of people were talking on the street, and one of the guys said, "hey man - I like your kilt! I replied, "I like it, too." The cashier at Ace Hardware said something like, "cool Utilikilt" with quite a few there waiting in line. People generally know what it is, and I have yet to experience anything really negative.

Once, whilst my wife and I were walking I thought I heard one of the neighbor boys comment to his friend about a "dress". His friend said something to him, but we were too far down the road for me to hear. I attribute that to a young kid just not knowing what it was I was wearing, probably never have seen a kilt. Our little neighbor boy comes over any time he sees me out in the yard working or cutting agates with my lapidary saw, ready to show me his Transformers T shirt or his scooter, and he seems oblivious to the kilt. I later told him what it is, in case he was wondering and let him know it was what men wear and is NOT a dress.

So, been enjoying my kilts a lot. They are so comfortable and such free movement I wonder why in the world trousers have been so entrenched in America. I know some like to wear their kilts "commando", but not this guy. I believe - ESPECIALLY living in such a windy place as this town - in having what I call "Calvin Klein modesty insurance". In fact the wind has been a real hindrance to wearing kilts here (spring is windy season in this part of Arizona). I stopped by a next door neighbor's place today to deliver something and the wind had picked up dramatically over the last hour, and it almost blew the kilt up around me like a blown out umbrella. Had to go home and revert to pants . But the day is coming when the winds will finally let go and summer will be here .

Have not worn my nice tartan kilts much; I tend to think those should be worn to events and parties and such like, not to Wal Mart or the grocery store. That's just me.

There is another guy who goes to my church (Calvary Chapel) who recently purchased a kilt from Sport Kilt and he intends on getting some utility kilts and wearing them around. Cool... won't feel so eccentric. I think he has Irish heritage.

    Anyway, kilting is a blast!
