Enjoying a new (to me) UK Workman's the way it was meant to be
About a month ago I got damn lucky on ebay, picked up a tan UK Survival (of the early production run) and a chocolate UK Workman's for $130 total! I need to shorten the Survival a bit, but the Workman's is about right. Its been well used, but not abused. One of the apron snaps tore out of the inner apron, and was repaired, but other than that its fine.
I'd been wearing it around the house in the evenings, enjoying the completely different feel of the canvas-like fabric. Then this week finally got to put it in its element a little bit. My dad and I are off work this week (the entire project shuts down for the week) so its time to get some projects done around the house. Started off with building up a much better closet shelving system in one of their extra bedrooms. I've used a tool belt before when really working on carpentry stuff, but its so nice to have the tool belt pockets just be part of your clothing. ;) Without even realizing it I had a hammer in the loop on the right side, tape measure clipped onto the left loop, a couple pencils in outer pocket, speed square in the main pocket, utility blade and plumb bob in the other outer pocket.
It just felt right.
And it felt 'appropriate' to be getting it dusty and dirty, without caring or worrying about it. I'm really pleased with the chocolate color instead of the caramel or black. Also pleased that the previous owner had sewn in a swath of soft fabric on the inner apron. Feels good...
Now, to see about getting that Survival shortened a bit. Currently its to the bottom of my kneecaps; not good.
Geez, just realized this puts me up to nine Utilikilts now. Starting from May '05:
Olive Original, Black Mocker, Postal Blue Mocker, Steel Gray Mocker, Basil Survival, Green Camo Original, Nightshade Camo Original, Tan Survival, Chocolate Workman's.
