Havasupai in a basil UK Survival

Guess I was optimistic that somehow I'd have figured this new format out if I went away and left it for a few days....still don't have an avitar...no clue where the one I had went to.

Wanted to post some pics...galleries are still down. Must be a massive undertaking for Hank.

Anyhow, point is, Uncle Otto came through with my FREE basil Survival (UK of the month dealie) in time for me to wear it down Havasupai.

Really glad I wore it...heat wave hit suddenly, had to be at least 107 on the 8 miles in. Lady with me slipped on the slick rock sandstone and broke her wrist. Insisted on hiking in to Supai to the clinic...took over six hours to go 8 miles. All downhill, but every step littered with trip rocks and poor footing. Thankfully, the kilt kept me cool.

Due to her broken wrist and my blisters (so much for Carhardt wool sox on a hike) we both had to take the helicopter out the next day.

The survival modesty snaps worked well in the helicopter rotar wash and when climbing into and out of the chopper.

Got some pics...but guess they'll have to wait until the galleries are back up.

Gonna go away a while longer and give Hank a chance to tinker this new format out...I'm baffled...

My very newly kilted friend will be wearing his sage survival on a hike in the Grand Canyon this weekend.

Sorry about your lady friend, did her wrist set alright now?

As for socks, Thorlo makes some wool socks that I absolutely swear by. Worsted wool with a bit of spandex woven in to provide stretch and let them keep their shape. Best damn socks ever.

Thanks guys. Her operation went well...guess only time will tell. She makes her living at the keyboard so good healing is important.

Silly me, I never realized that big companies like Carhardt don't bother to trim the loose threads on the insides of the socks they sell...

Thanks for the tip Yaish. I stopped at Four Star boots in Flagstaff on the way home today and they took me by the hand and led me to the Thorlo rack. Just washed two new pair. Gonna try them this weekend up on Mt. Mingus.
