I bought three yards of gold/orange Carhartt canvas fabric off of ebay and it'll arrive tomorrow. My intent is to make a canvas "casual" kilt that will be pretty much along the lines of a tradtional with a few features. It'll be almost the same color as an Irish saffron kilt....I'll call it my "neo tradtional saffron kilt" . Just don't look too closely!

I'll sew down the pleats and probably put an inner-apron pocket in it. I'll probably make a hang-it-off-the-belt side-bag for stuff i gotta carry around. Real pockets in the pleats might be too much of a challange for my first kilt. I figure I'll substitute outdoorsy style backpack quick-clips for the traditional leather straps and buckles. Maybe the inner apron fastening will be velcro.

Any hints on canvas kilts for a kilt-making virgin?
