Modern Formal
This is a thought exercise for those that wish to play...
If you were wanting to put together a modern, formal, black tie outfit how would you roll it?
Mine:
-a 3 pleat Lady Chrystel modern kilt in Ancient Dunbar tartan
-a western cut (spencer type) Tux coat or an Ike type, same tartan on bias
-black mandarin collared shirt or a wingtip shirt with a bolo tie
-3" kilt belt with western themed buckle
-western tooled sporran
-sox to compliment shirt
-western lacers for shoes
-perhaps a western derby or a fedora styled cowboy hat
Note: I live in Colorado that is why I am looking at the western theme
Now it is your turn...

Re: Modern Formal
I would wear a tuxedo.
However, I do think the argyle hose and buckle pumps are very nice looking. Also think a black or dark green, velvet sporran would also be very nice.
The rest... I will not say because I am confused and incompetent.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

Re: Modern Formal
I'm just playing with some ideas...kind of Southwest USA meets the Highlands, say for a modern formal event in Denver or Colorado Springs.

Re: Modern Formal
I don't own any of this stuff, but here's running with the Western theme:
"Land of Enchantment" (or other Western state) tartan kilt
Mess jacket
Turn-down collar shirt with turquoise studs
Bow or bolo tie
Round western belt buckle with tooled black leather belt
Horsehair sporran with a REAL horseshoe cantle
Authentic handlebar mustache
Native American "Sgian dubh" (I believe Riverkilt has one)
Garters made in a pattern like this
Diced hose
Ghillie Brogues with thistle-patterned spurs
Stetson complete with crest badge and a spring of your clan plant badge (for outdoor use only)
