My first contemporary kilt

This is my everyday kilt.
The pleats are weird.
I'm contemplating sewing some Velcro to keep the front closed.
Other than that, I can't wait to get my next kilt.

If you are talking about using Velcro to hold the edge of the apron closed you probably don't want to do that. It is normal for a kilt to be fastened only at the waist and not lower (some kilts have a second strap/buckle below the upper by a few inches). You will see kilt pins used on tartan kilts on the edge of the apron near the bottom. This pin is only placed through the outer apron and not used to pin the two aprons together. If you pin the aprons together you risk damaging the fabric.
I notice you are wearing the kilt very low. Normally the bottom of the kilt should go at the knee. For traditional kilts the top is at your real waist. Much higher than were we wear pants. Utility/contemporary type kilts can end up where ever the manufacture designed them to be. Some may be high on the waist while others may be designed for jean waist level. If designed for Jean level then the length of the kilt is adjusted so the bottom is at the knee.

You're right, I am wearing it a little bit low.
Even with my regular kilt, it goes right below my knee. I'm 5'7, and have short legs.
I'll have to look at getting my kilts altered.

The physical structure of some folks requires altering the hem upward. If this is the "kick around" kilt proceeding the future "Sunday go to Meeting" kilt, you'll have a great comparison to the details you need for a great fitting kilt to your body type.
